TECHNICAL INTERVIEW QUESTIONS-4

 1. What are Bevel Gears?

Bevel gears are the type of gears in which the two shafts happen to intersect. The gear faces which are tooth bearing are conical in shape. They are generally mounted on shafts which are 90 degrees apart but they can be made to work at other angles as well.

2. At critical point the latent heat of vaporization is?

 Equal to zero

3. In case of a cam, the maximum value of the pressure angle is kept as?

 30°

4. What is the function of Pitot-tube in the mechanical engineering devices?

To measure the velocity of flowing fluid.

5. What is the percentage of carbon present in pig iron?

 4.5 to 6%.

6. What is the basic difference between coupling and clutch?

There is a basic difference between the coupling and the clutch. A coupling, such as a flange coupling, is a permanent connection. The driving and driven shafts are permanently attached by means of coupling and it is not possible to disconnect the shafts, unless the coupling is dismantled. On the other hand, the clutch can connect or disconnect the driving and driven shafts, as and when required by the operator.

7.  If the temperature of the source is increased, then the efficiency of the Carnot engine will?

  It Increases.

8. How many degrees of freedom does an epicylic gear have?

 Two

 9. What is the Sensitivity of governor?

It is the ratio of Range of speed to the mean speed.

10. Automobile steering gear is an example of which pair of motion?

 Lower pair

11. in a locomotive, the ratio of the connecting rod length to the crank radius is kept very large, why?

To minimize the effect of secondary forces

12. What is the condition of self-locking in a lift screw if, Where α = helix angle of threads and Φ = angle of friction?

 Î± < Φ

13. What is the latent heat of evaporation at critical point?

 Zero

14. What do you understand by forced convection?

When convection heat transfer occurs between a solid body and a fluid and where
Circulation of fluid is caused and controlled by some mechanical.

15. What is the train value of a gear train?

It is the reciprocal of velocity ratio of a gear train.

16. Corioli’s component of acceleration will exist only if?

If the two coincidental points have linear relative velocity of sliding accompanied by the   rotation about fixed centre

17. when does interference take place, In case of gears?

Whenever the forms of the mating teeth are such that contact between them can occur at some place other than along the correct path of contact.

18. What is radiosity?

It is the rate at which radiation leaves a surface.

19. A circular bar subjected to tension is designed for a particular safety factor. If both load and diameter are doubled, then factor of safety will be?

Doubled

20. What is the Purpose of draft tube in hydraulic turbines?

The purpose of a draft tube is to convert some of the kinetic energy of the flow from the runner (the rotating part of the turbine) into pressure energy and thereby increase the efficiency of the hydro power turbine.
